The incorporation of a culture into the general host society (see melting pot theory). The acceptance of the host culture may result in the loss of cultural identity of an ethnic group. In reality, cultural assimilation can range along a continuum from complete isolation, or segregation (see apartheid) to complete assimilation. Compare structural assimilation.
