Quick Reference

A term coined in the early 1970s to describe a trend in Czech avantgarde art in the second decade of the 20th century in which elements of Cubism and Expressionism were combined. The fusion of Cubist fragmentation of form and Expressionist emotionalism is seen particularly in the work of the members of the Group of Plastic Artists. In a broader and vaguer sense, the term ‘Cubo-Expressionism’ has been used to describe other aspects of Czech avant-garde art and literature in this period.
