cup anemometer

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

An anemometer consisting of a vertical shaft that is rotated through the action of the wind on three or four conical or hemispherical cups at the end of cross bars. The shaft's rotation may either operate a counter once per revolution (in what is known as a cup-contact anemometer), or generate an electrical current. The former requires conversion to obtain the wind speed, whereas the latter may give a direct reading.
