Argentinian tenor and conductor. Had gui. lessons and at 15 was choral cond. Studied cond. and comp. at Sch. of Arts, Nat. Univ. of Rosario, 1982–5, and at Mus. Sch. of Teatro Colón, 1985–91. Went to Italy for vocal coaching and made stage début Verona 1992 in Henze's Pollicino. 1st prize int. Domingo comp., 1994. Amer. début Chicago 1994 (Loris in Fedora). CG 1995 (Stiffelio), Vienna 1996 (Cavaradossi in Tosca), Milan 1997 (Enzo in La gioconda). First sang Verdi's Otello with Berlin PO cond. Abbado 1997, then on stage Turin 1997. NY Met 1999 (Cavalleria rusticana). At Hamburg 2003 cond. Cavalleria rusticana and after interval sang Canio in Pagliacci.
