An endocrine disorder (hyperadrenocorticism, hypercorticism) in which there is overproduction of cortisol in response to excessive secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), usually from a pituitary adenoma. Symptoms include weight gain, hypertension, and a range of other changes.
