Quick Reference

The arrangement of a number of objects that may be considered to be positioned in a circle may be called a cycle or cyclic arrangement. The arrangement of a, b, c and d in that order round a circle is considered the same as b, c, d and a in that order round a circle. The cycle or cyclic arrangement of a, b, c, d may be written [a, b, c, d], where it is understood that [a, b, c, d]=[b, c, d, a], for example, but that [a, d, c, b] is different.
