Quick Reference

A melanoma (malignant tumour of cancer-producing cells) on the exposed part of the lower limb. The development of this type of melanoma has been linked with cycling because the skin of the calf and thigh are intermittently exposed to high levels of UV light when in the flexed cycling position. To reduce risks, cyclists should wear protective clothing and high protective factor sunscreen on skin areas exposed to the sun.
