(order Orthoptera, suborder Caelifera)
Family of mediumsized, wholly subterranean caeliferans which bear a superficial resemblance to Gryllotalpidae (mole crickets). Wings are absent, and the general body and leg structure is highly modified for burrowing. Only seven species have been described. Five occur in Australia, one in New Guinea, and one in Patagonia.
