(?–1619) English-born soldier who twice served as governor of the Virginia colony. Dale is credited with helping to bring order to the disease-plagued settlement and ensuring its continued existence.
Dale was instrumental in bringing about the marriage between Pocahontas and the Englishman John Rolfe that established a peace between settlers and Indians.
