US dancer, choreographer, and teacher. She studied at the Martha Graham School and performed with various companies, including Lang's, before joining the Graham company as principal dancer from 1976. In 1988 she recreated, with Graham, the speaking part in Letter to the World and in 1993 created the lead role in Tharp's Demeter and Persephone. She has taught internationally as well as at the Graham, Ailey, and Juilliard schools and in 1997 was appointed associate artistic director of the Graham company becoming joint director (with Terese Capucilli) in 2007.
