A test of an athlete's ability to perform alternate aerobic and anaerobic activities. The athlete performs five sprints at maximal effort from standing starts over distances of 50 m for men and 40 m for women, at intervals of 1 min. The athlete's time for each sprint is recorded to indicate the ability to repeat an anaerobic activity. Heart rate is taken between the 40th and 55th second after each sprint, and between the 60th and 90th second after the fifth sprint, and finally at the end of the third minute to evaluate recovery capacity.
