(1757–1822).

French architect. He supervised the erection of Ledoux's barrières (toll-collecting offices) in Paris in the 1780s, and followed the master's severe Neo-Classical style. He designed several mansions and apartment-blocks in Paris and the theatre of the Société Olympique which so impressed Tsar Alexander I of Russia (1801–25) that he requested a set of the drawings for it. He also designed the Théâtre Royale de la Monnaie, Brussels (1813–18), with its octastyle Ionic portico. This and other works are illustrated in Goetgheuber's Délices (1819).
