An Indian monk.originally from Udyāna in north-west India.he arrived in China in 980 ce and took up residence in the Northen Sung capital of Kaifeng. There he translated a considerable number of texts, especially those linked to tantric Buddhism.including a complete version of the Sarva-tathāgata-tattva-saṃgraha Sūtra. Prior to his death in 1017 ce, he was also involved in preparatory editorial work that was undertaken for the epoch-making printing of the Shu-pen edition of the Chinese Tripiṭaka, the first time a Buddhist canon was printed in any language.
