An object having the appearance of an asteroid, but with a similar orbit to that of the Halley family of comets. Damocloids are thought to be the nuclei of former comets now rendered inactive by degassing or mantling of the surface. They are named after their prototype, Damocles. Such an object could impact the Earth with little notice on account of its low albedo (only a few per cent) and high approach velocity.
