New York-based performance space. It was founded by Jeff Duncan, Jack Moore, and Art Bauman in 1965 for the presentation of new dance work and in 1975 it moved to Robbins's American Theater Laboratory where, under the artistic direction of David White, it began to present regular seasons. It has subsequently aided the early careers of several major choreographers including Mark Morris and Bill T. Jones. In the early 1980s it founded its Bessie Award scheme, designed to honour artists outside the dance mainstream.
