A versatile and prolific satirist and dramatic critic, Daniel assembled an important collection of Elizabethan and other dramatic texts, including Shakespeare’s First Folio and its three subsequent folio editions, as well as other rare editions of Shakespeare's works. His library was sold, with his other effects, at Sotheby’s, over a ten-day period starting on 20 July 1866; the sale realized £15,865.
