Quick Reference

A type of grass used in Vedic sacrificial rituals. Spread across the altar (vedi) and the whole sacrificial enclosure, it is burnt at the end of the ritual. Considered both sacred and powerful, darbha also has less specific ritual and symbolic uses. Sprouting darbha is referred to as kuśa, but the two terms are often used synonymously.
