Ballet in one act with choreography by Balanchine, music by Stravinsky and design by Eugene Berman. Premiered 10 Sept. 1944 (two years after the concert premiere of the score) by Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo at City Center, New York, with Danilova and Danielian. An exuberant witty setting of Stravinsky's score of the same title it was subsequently re-worked for New York City Ballet's Stravinsky Festival in 1972. Other versions include MacMillan (London, 1955), Blaska (Amiens, 1968), and Taras (Berlin, 1971).
