Either of two satellites scheduled for launch by the European Space Agency (ESA) to provide control, communication, and monitoring for crewed and uncrewed spacecraft. The satellites will be in geostationary orbit for a projected ten-year lifespan to provide wide coverage of satellites in low Earth orbit. The ESA's Artemis, launched on 12 July 2001, will be employed with the DRS satellites on the Data-Relay and Technology Mission (DRTM), which will provide the equivalent services of NASA's Tracking and Data-Relay Satellite (TDRS).
