A program which manages data replication in a distributed system. This is software which keeps a number of databases containing replicated data in synchronization. Such software has two functions: first it ensures that when a database changes the change is broadcast to the other replicated databases in order to update them; second, it ensures that any query or update on a database waits until the database is in synchronization with the other replicated databases.
