Quick Reference

(1861–1938). Norfolk-born English architect. He worked with George&Peto from 1882 before establishing his own practice in 1890. He earned his reputation as a designer of small well-mannered country-houses, some of which were published in Muthesius's Das Englische Haus (The English House—1904–5). Among his designs Conkwell Grange, Bradford-on-Avon, Wilt. (1907), deserves note. He wrote Old Cottages and Farmhouses in Kent and Sussex (1900) and Old Cottages, Farmhouses, and Other Stone Buildings in the Cotswolds (1905).
