Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A system for providing shelter and supervision of infants, toddlers, and preschool children whose parent(s) have no one else with whom to leave them while at work or otherwise occupied. Some jurisdictions provide day care at public expense or it is subsidized; in others, the parent(s) must pay for it in full. The quality varies, as do the benefits, such as early socialization and the risks of harm to children from such causes as cross-infection.

Subjects: Public Health and Epidemiology.
