A transmembrane receptor protein involved in inducing apoptosis. It oligomerizes on binding of its ligand and contains an intracellular death domain that recruits a cytosolic death domain protein (e.g. FADD) to initiate apoptosis. Examples include Fas and TNF receptor‐1.
