A hyperlink in a Web site that is embedded a long distance from the site's home page. For example, you may have to click on about ten or more links on higher-level pages to reach the link. One of the more controversial aspects of the issue of copyright on the Web is the degree to which it is legal for a company to develop Web pages which contain such deep links: see Internet copyright. A link which is close to the home page or is the uniform resource locator of the home page is known as a shallow link. See also bandwidth theft.
