A form of massage performed by moving the pads of the thumbs along the length of muscle, starting from the point farthest from the heart and moving towards it. Deep stroking moves much blood and lymph through the muscle, removing fluid that might have accumulated during exercise. This form of massage is quite aggressive and can be painful, causing the subject to tense the muscles; this tension can be relieved by jostling.
