Quick Reference

Hepatitis D virus. A defective virus requiring coinfection with hepatitis B virus for replication. The agent consists of a particle 35 nm in diameter consisting of the delta antigen surrounded by an outer coat of HBsAg. The genome is very small and consists of a single-stranded RNA. Found endemically throughout the world. See hepatitis viruses.
