Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A glucose analogue, an imino sugar in which the ring oxygen is replaced with a nitrogen atom. Deoxynojirimycin and nojirimycin act as a saccharide decoys and inhibit the ceramide glucosyltransferase (EC 2.4.1.80) involved in the first step of glucosphingolipid synthesis and thus the production of cell surface glycoproteins. Occurs naturally in mulberry plants, Streptomyces, and Bacillus sp.
