The DENI manages and directs the central administration of education in Northern Ireland. It is responsible for the strategic planning and management of education, the content and delivery of the curriculum, the allocation of funding to the Education and Library Boards, and the capital costs for most schools. The DENI is headed by the Minister for Education, whose principal adviser is the Permanent Secretary. Two Deputy Secretaries and the Chief Inspector of the Education and Training Inspectorate support the Permanent Secretary.
