Quick Reference

Any vessel or cargo abandoned at sea by those in charge of it, without any hope of recovery. In the UK, derelict now comes under the legal definition of wreck, and any salvage has to be reported to the Receiver of Wreck. However, boats lost from their moorings are not classified as derelict as they have not been abandoned without any hope of recovery.
