Quick Reference

A weight-training method in which a particular resistance is lifted the maximum number of times. The resistance is reduced and the trainee continues the exercise with the lighter weight, again until failure. Again, the resistance is reduced and the procedure repeated. As many as 10 sets can be completed using this method, but usually three to five sets is as much as most people can tolerate. This is not a routine for the novice; it can be quite painful.

Subjects: Medicine and Health.
