A company logo usually attached to a piece of apparel or merchandise to indicate a higher value product that comes from a top quality designer. The French couturiers have been especially adept at extending the designer label concept across a range of fashion items. At some point between the 1970s and 1990s marketers convinced the public to wear these labels (previously worn on the inside) to the outside, making each consumer a walking advertisement.
