Quick Reference
A desmosomal plaque protein (5890 aa) from bovine muzzle keratinocytes that is thought to be dumbell-shaped and ~170 nm in length. The desmoyokin gene is identical to the human AHNAK gene, which is expressed ubiquitously but usually considered a nuclear protein, although also associated with membranes of enlargeosomes. Desmoyokin/Ahnak null mutant mice do not show any marked phenotype. The disparities continue to be puzzling.
