A movement where the dancer draws one foot up the side of the supporting leg and then slowly unfolds the working leg into the air, where it is held. Modern ballerinas have become famous for being able to achieve the ‘half past twelve position’ where the working foot is lifted almost as high as the dancer's ear. Developpés can be performed to the front and back as well as to the side.
