(orig. Croatian title Davo u selu)
Ballet in three acts with choreography and libretto by Pia and Pino Mlakar, music by F. Lhotka, and design by Roman Clemens. Premiered 18 Feb. 1935 in Zurich with the Mlakars, Mischa Panajew, and Maja Küblera. It tells the story of Mirko, a young man who is seduced by the devil to tread the slippery downward path to hell. His good heart finally wins out against the latter's cunning and he returns just in time to save his beloved Jela from being married to a wealthy fool. A very popular ballet, it was revived in this and other versions in many middle European countries.
