Masthead stays in the rigging of some old-fashioned Bermudan-rigged yachts. They were generally made of steel wire arranged on each side of the mast over spreaders, and secured to the mast above and below to form a diamond shape. Nowadays they are only used on catamarans which have rotating rigs.
