Overview

dideoxynucleotide

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A nucleoside triphosphate in which the hydroxyl groups on C-2 and C-3 of the pentose have been substituted by hydrogen. Dideoxynucleotides can be added during DNA synthesis but block further chain extension. This is important in the dideoxy sequencing method (Sanger–Coulson method) that uses four differently labelled dideoxy nucleotides.
