A straight line with a specified direction along the line. The specified direction may be called the positive direction and the opposite the negative direction. It may be convenient to distinguish the ends of the line by labelling them x′ and x, where the positive direction runs from x′ to x. Alternatively, a directed line may be denoted by Ox, where O is a point on the line and the positive direction runs towards the end x.
