In analytical psychology, conscious use of language and concepts, closely tied to reality, characteristic of intellectual communication, scientific exposition, and common sense. It is closely related to the secondary process of psychoanalysis. Carl Gustav Jung (1875–1961) discussed it at length, contrasting it with fantasy thinking (Collected Works, 5, paragraphs 4–46).
