Quick Reference

The movement of a body such as a planet from west to east on the celestial sphere; or the movement of a body in its orbit in an anticlockwise sense as seen from above the Sun's north pole; or the rotation of a body on its axis in an anticlockwise sense as seen from above the Sun's north pole. Direct motion, also known as prograde motion, is the normal direction of orbital motion and axial rotation of bodies in the Solar System; the opposite direction is retrograde.
