Quick Reference

One of the most important components found in a client server computing system is the directory service. This keeps details of all the computing resources in such a system. The data which details the resources is contained in a database that is replicated over a number of directory servers. The protocol which the individual servers use to communicate with each other is known as the Directory System Protocol. It is defined as part of the X500 standard for directory services.
