Quick Reference

The distance between two codewords in a binary code is the number of bits in which the two codewords differ. For example, the distance between 010110 and 001100 is 3 because they differ in the second, third and fifth bits. If the distance between any two different codewords in a binary code is at least 3, the code is an error-correcting code capable of correcting any one error.
