An object which resides on a computer in a distributed system to which messages can easily be sent by programs executing on other computers. Such messages abstract away much of the programming details required to send data over a network, thus reducing the programming effort needed. The three main distributed object technologies are Common Object Request Broker Architecture, Remote Method Invocation, and Distributed Component Object Model.
