An organized system of thundery showers and squalls, several hundred kilometres long, that travels westwards across West Africa. Disturbance lines originate in summer when south-westerly monsoon air is overrun by dry air from the Sahara, particularly when there is divergence in the upper troposphere to the north of the easterly tropical jet stream.
