Quick Reference

Sometimes Diurán ‘the rhymer’. Poet and companion of Máel Dúin on the fabulous Imram Curaig Máele Dúin [Voyage of Máel Dúin]. Among his adventures were: the plunge into the magic fountain that gives him lifelong youth and good health; cutting off the arm of the man holding the magical thread, thus allowing the crew to escape; and tearing off a piece of net from the pillar of silver, which he lays on the altar at Armagh. This last is usually thought a Christian emendation of the original text.
