The principal occupational injury risk for commercial divers is barotrauma. Recreational divers using compressed air tanks are also at risk of barotrauma. Other common injuries include spinal cord injuries, not uncommonly quadriplegia, caused by crush injury to the cervical spine following a dive into shallow water, and lacerations from reef shellfish, coral, etc.
