Quick Reference

A regularly arranged set (DNA array, DNA microarray, gene array, biochip) of different DNA fragments or polynucleotides bound to a solid support (often microscope-slide sized) in such a way as to allow hybridization with added labelled single-stranded RNA or DNA. Such arrays can be used to look for expression of particular genes or to identify novel sequences. Each array may have thousands of different fragments, and with careful washing the array may be used for multiple experiments.
