A measure of the amount of nonrepetitive DNA characteristic of a given DNA sample. In an experiment involving reassociation kinetics (q.v.), DNA complexity represents the combined length in nucleotide pairs of all unique DNA fragments. The DNA of evolutionarily advanced species is more complex than that of primitive species.
