Quick Reference

A magnesium-dependent endonuclease (DFF, caspase-activated DNase, CAD) specific for double-stranded DNA. In nonapoptotic cells it is found in the nucleus as a heterodimer, composed of an inhibitory chaperone (DFF45; inhibitor of CAD, ICAD-L, 331 aa) and a latent nuclease (DFF40/CAD, 338 aa). The nuclease is activated by caspase-3 and possibly other caspases.
