Quick Reference

The proposition that all methods of psychotherapy are equally effective. The term derives from an article in the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry in 1936 in which the US psychologist Saul Rosenzweig (1907–2004) put forward the conjecture and quoted from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832–98). The quotation was from Chapter 3, after the dodo had arranged a ‘caucus-race’ but no one knew who had won: ‘At last the Dodo said, “Everybody has won, and all must have prizes” ’.
