Quick Reference

(1934– ).

Austrian architect and leader of the Graz School, which counters Historicist traditions and promotes individualistic buildings no matter what the context. His Zentralsparkasse Regional Headquarters, Favoritenstrasse, Vienna (1974–9), was designed with a front that seemed to be folding and crumpling. His individualism was influential on younger Austrian architects. His Stone House at Steindorf (2002) attracted much attention.
